Since 2008 the citadel of Blaye and the Vauban's bolt are inscribed on the world heritage list by Unesco inside the network of the Major Vauban Sites.

The Vauban's bolt on estuary prevent ennemies to go to Bordeaux. The Vauban's bolt comprises three forts : the citadel of Blaye, the Pâté fort and the Medoc fort. And the Major Vauban Sites network counts 11 buildings every where in France, representatives of the architect brain from the 17th century, Sébastien Vauban.
